S U P P O R T O U R S C H O O L : Nine Ways to Give
There are at least nine different ways you can support the Russell Byers Charter School. All contributions are fully tax deductible.
If you have a question about any of the following contribution opportunities, please call Laurada Byers at 215-772-1777.
- Donate directly by sending a check, payable to "The Byerschool Foundation," to:
Byerschool Foundation
Suite 400
210 West Rittenhouse Square
Philadelphia, PA 19103
- Make an online contribution through Network for Good.
- Pledge a gift. You can also make a pledge and conveniently arrange your payments over time. Simply fill out our RBCS pledge form [44K PDF] and fax or mail it to: Byerschool Foundation, 210 W. Rittenhouse Square, Suite 400, Philadelphia, PA 19103, Fax 215-772-3045. We will contact you to confirm your gift.
- Everybody wins when you make a gift of appreciated stock to the Russell Byers Charter School Fund managed by The Philadelphia Foundation. By giving stock through The Philadelphia Foundation, you can avoid capital gains taxes that would be due as a result of its sale by contributing to a charitable fund that benefits the organization you care about most. The Foundation handles all the administrative details. Please contact Jodi Rosen, Development Officer (jrosen@philafound.org) or Keith Doughty (kdoughty@philafound.org) for assistance in transfering the proceeds of your stock sale to the Fund.
- Ask your employer to match your gift, and you'll multiply the value of your donation. Contact your human resources department to learn about your company's gift-matching policy. Then contact us.
- Contribute a gift of real estate or life insurance. Donating a home or other real property may save you capital gains tax. Naming the Russell Byers charter School as the owner and beneficiary of your life insurance policy may secure you a tax deduction. If premiums are still due, your future payments may also be deductible. Then contact us.
- Remember RBCS in your will or under a retirement plan. You can set up a living trust, make an outright bequest, or participate in one of a number of other ways to maximize tax advantages. By making Russell Byers Charter Sschool the beneficiary of your retirement plan, you can avoid the double taxation of retirement benefits at your death. For more information, contact us.
- Make an in-kind contribution of goods or services. During the school year there are many goods and services we need. You may be able to reduce the expenses of our annual budget while you receive a tax deduction. Contact us.
- Contribute for a tax credit. If you represent a corporation in the state of Pennsylvania, you may be able to make a contribution through the state's Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. For information and a link to the appropriate form, visit Russell Byers Charter School Tax Credit Program.

New Tax Incentives
There are new tax incentives for rolling over traditional & Roth IRA contributions to charities. H.R. 4, the Pension Protection Act of 2006, was signed into law on August 16, 2006. This bill contains a two-year IRA Charitable Rollover provision that allows people age 70½ or older to exclude up to $100,000 from their gross income in tax years 2006 and 2007 for cash gifts made directly to a qualified charity. The gifts must be made by December 31st of each calendar year. For more information, please email Laurada Byers at lbyers@byerschool.org or call at 215.772.3053.
